    Assessment

Assessment is the process of making judgments about students’ progress and attainment. An assessment has two components: a description and an assessment. If you say that someone can run a mile in four minutes or can special French, these are neutral descriptions of what someone can do. If you say that she is the best athlete in the district or speaks French like a native, these are assessments. The difference is that assessments compare individual performances with others and rate them against particular criteria.

    Assessment has following roles:

    Diagnostic

To help teachers understand students’ aptitude and levels of development.

    Formative

To gather information on students’ work and activities to support their progress.

    Summative

It is about making judgments on overall performance at end of a program of work.

Effective assessment plays a vital role and it is an integral part of teaching and learning. Properly conceived, both formal and informal assessments support students learning and achievement in at least three ways:

    Motivation

Effective assessment spurs students to do well. It provides constructive feedback to help them understand how they are doing and to encourage them to improve where they can.

    Achievement

Effective assessment provides information on what students have actually done and achieved. It also provides relevant comparison with how others have done against similar criteria so that students and others can make their own judgments of their progress and potential.

    Standards

Effective assessment sets clear and relevant standards that can raise students’ aspirations and contribute to the guidance and practical support they may need in teaching them.

To nurture the many facets of the child’s development both scholastic and co-scholastic growth will be charted. The evaluation will be holistic, based on child’s involvement in class projects, assignments, conversations, activities, student-teacher interactions, work habits and interpersonal relationship. The skills learnt and progress made throughout the year will be recorded by the teacher and discussed with parents for development of child. At Wisdom Valley, we tend to discover true potential of child in association with parents on the basis of effective assessment.

    Homework

Homework in WVGS is a significant part of learning and is spread as per varying levels depending on the need of reinforcement at home. Our objective is to keep the homework comprehensive and engaging for the child according to varying levels so that it induces learning with fun. The students are never over-burdened because we cater to different ways when it comes to providing homework. The process of giving homework starts from Grade 3 onwards.

From pre-nursery to Grade 2, the homework is not compulsory in nature as per the norms of Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).
